< start transmission > > Why, hello there. I see that this chapter of my life has caught your undivided attention. I see that you’ve decided to open the first page of this chapter, this book, my book, my life. How do I know? Well, I wouldn’t be talking to you now, would I? > My name shall remain anonymous for specific reasons–partly because I don’t know you, or neither do I trust you. I don’t know who you are, and you don’t know who I am. As much as I want to keep it that way, I can’t. I fear that my life will come to its fatal end very soon. So, I have to tell you as much as I know before it’s too late. > For now, you can call me X. I was part of an experiment gone terribly wrong. My parents were murdered in cold blood right in front of me and I couldn’t do anything about it. I was only a small child, taken into custody by Dr. Twyte. He wanted to make the perfect lethal weapon, one that would seek and destroy. Along with that, he created a doomsday device; one that when triggered, could annihilate the entire world. > Well, he was successful with both, getting permission from our lord to create such a dangerous device. He gained recognition from everyone in Couzette. He was among our top scientists, creating and patenting his ideas. His doomsday device was highly prized throughout Couzette, and he soon began working on a device that would reverse the effects of the weapon if it was ever activated. Only problem was, he died while on the brink of creating it. > Now, there are those out to find this doomsday device, using whatever tools necessary to hunt it down. When they find this weapon, it is unknown what they will do with it. There is hope that they will continue the unfinished project of Dr. Twyte, yet, there is inquiry that whoever these people are, will find this device, destroy it, or use it against us. Whatever the case, we cannot let them have it. > This is where you and I come in. I need you to take into account all that I am telling you. My very life depends on it. If you fail to remember, then I fail to live, simple as that. > Remember my story, because this may be the last time that you will hear from me. Please, do not forget. < end transmission> _________________ |

| Codename: X Location: Couzette Mission: Stay Alive The heavy noise of the traffic drowned out the soft music that was playing on the speakers posted alongside the brick wall of the small café. X sat at one of the circular tables outside the cafe–her legs crossed, eyes relaxed–as she sipped on her warm cup of coffee. With her eyes peeking over the brim of the cup, she glanced around at her surroundings. Couzette was booming with people walking in all directions; people of different sizes and colors. Her eyes trailed towards the center of the city, towards the Couzette Point Tower, where mass transportation occurred, where people were riding in their XYZ Night Dragons, LIK Silver Wings, and TYC Black Orbs. She brought her eyes back towards the café, hearing people talking amongst themselves. Everyone was minding their own business, going on with their lives as if they hadn’t a care in the world. As if they had no idea that their very life could end at any point in any given time, be it night or day. X took another sip from her cup, swirling the warm coffee in its mug to cool it. She sat the mug down, and while waiting for the coffee to cool, she leaned down, reaching inside her purse, and pulled out her lipstick and compact mirror. X pushed the small white button on the tube and the red lip paint automatically rose towards the top. She held the mirror at eye level and instantly, a projectile screen appeared before her, casting back her reflection in millions of pixels; X then began to apply the glossy lipstick on her lips. When she was about to close her mirror, she hesitated, seeing two men in silver reflecting from the mirror, both staring in her direction. They wore silver coats, black glasses, and X noted the black LIK Silver Wing gloves on their hands. She smacked her lips, slowly closed her mirror as if she had no idea they were spying on her, and continued putting the rest of her belongings in her purse. She stood from her seat, leaving her now cooled mug of coffee on the table, and walked towards her red XYZ Night Dragon. She took a quick glance towards a moving vehicle’s rear view mirror, and saw the two men quickly walking in her direction; stern, urgent, and concentrated looks were on their faces, as if they did not want her to escape from them. X moved across the street towards her XYZ and got in, putting her hair in a tight bun, feeling the adrenaline start to surge through her veins. She had an idea of who those men were, and she made sure to go through all costs to avoid them. X pressed a combination of buttons, and the Night Dragon stirred to life. Red and white lights blinked continuously in the Night Dragon, as it arose from its twenty minute slumber. The navigator flashed on the windshield for a split second, before it blinked off. The Night Dragon had levitated with short bursts of fire emitted from the rear of the vehicle, and the small wheels that kept it stationary were lifted from the ground and tucked inside of the vehicle. X looked behind her, seeing the two men rushing towards their vehicles. She snickered, adjusted her mirror, and set her Night Dragon in "hyper-drive." Within minutes X was racing out of the city with her feet slammed on the gas and strong blasts of fuel coming from her Night Dragon. Everything passing by her looked like a blur, for she was traveling at maximum speed: trees, people, cars–it was hard to get a steady focus on any of them. The speed they were traveling was almost preternatural, not real, beyond real. The two men, both on their own LIK Silver Wings, sped after her, dodging in and out and between traffic to shorten the ever increasing distance between them. X and her pursuers sped down the long stretch of road which was the highway linking Couzette with its surrounding, smaller cities. The men on their LIK Silver Wings wove in between vehicles; the LIK Silver Wings lacked in size, but gained innumerably in speed, they were ideal on long stretches such as the highway so they gained an advantage. X looked through her mirror for a split second, seeing them at a safe enough distance, but when she looked back in her mirror, she saw they were right behind her, literally, a simple extension of their arm, and they could touch the rear of the vehicle. X gritted her teeth for not thinking. How could she not realize that they would gain distance on the highway? With such a straight shot, all they had to do was continue ramming their feet on the accelerator, and in seconds, they would be upon her. Without thinking, X swerved in the other lane, barely missing the ongoing traffic. She only had a few seconds to look towards the man driving the TYC Black Orb. She snickered at the angered expression on his face. She dealt with drivers like that all the time–she was used to ruining someone’s day. Without a moment lost, X sped off the ramp leading to Vlan, a city nearest of Couzette. She merged into traffic, thankful that there was only a few cars in the street–enough space and room for her to maneuver around in her Night Dragon. She constantly peered back towards her mirror, every other second, continuing to watch the men chase after her. Since they were on their Silver Wings, she knew she wasn’t advantageous on a straight street, so she had to constantly find street corners where she could automatically switch her direction. Night Dragons were the perfect vehicles with changes in direction, but, with that gain, they had a loss–they weren’t necessarily as fast as their mechanical counterparts, the Silver Wings, which were small, hover, motorcycles. Silver Wings were the fastest of the three vehicles, but, they were the worst with directional changes. X saw the two men move apart from each other, so they could speed up and appear on both sides of her car. She knew their tactics and strategies, so she made sure they couldn’t execute them. X rammed even harder on the accelerator, with her Night Dragon still in hyper-drive, the flame turned an intense, soft blue, and this was the highest speed it could reach. X slithered between cars and turned sharp corners where she occasionally hit energy hydrants, that, when burst, a tall statue of blue fuel rose in the air. The two men continued onwards, leant forward in their seats, with both hands wrapped tightly in their gloves and clenched onto the handles of their Silver Wings. The adrenaline rushed within them, and it was evident on their faces, which were keen and sharp. At every corner, X would release her right hand from the wheel, and habitually, shift gears, from hyper drive, to cruise, and back to hyper drive again, as the length and curve of the streets varied. She was a natural professional. She had learned from her experiences, many experiences. The chase became worse, when X had forced a sudden suicide upon herself. She entered upon a straight stretch of street that had no other streets intersecting it. She gritted her teeth, and did the only thing she could do. She re-adjusted her hands on the steering wheel, tightening her grip, swerved four lanes, causing other drivers to slam dead on their breaks and avoid collision, pressed a combination of four buttons on her dashboard, and, with immediacy, she made another swerve onto the sidewalk, where pedestrians were present. There were screams of terror, cries of horror, and looks of fear on people’s faces, as X drove a few feet down the sidewalk. X gritted her teeth, preparing herself mentally and physically for what her XYZ was about to perform. She checked her mirror, seeing the two men still traveling down the street, right along side of her. One of the men became daring enough to swerve onto the walkway, and all moving pedestrians either jumped out of the way in fear, or attempted to run out the way, but were too slow and got pushed. The man was ruthless. Bodies were getting hit, little children were crying. The man was moving too fast for pedestrians to take action and avoid getting hurt. The other man continued to follow the chase on the street, weaving between traffic to catch up with them. X continued to watch the guy following her, she was ahead of him, but they both were disadvantageous for being on the walkway with innocent bystanders. X changed the gear on the XYZ and, in a few seconds, the Night Dragon had rose even higher in the air, lifting up several feet–passed two, over six, more than ten, higher than twenty. X rose forty-five feet in the air, and with a sudden hand motion, she shifted the Night Dragon in the air, and it ran along the glass windows of the building. The gears changed back to hyper drive, and she sped alongside those windows, which ruptured by the intensity and acceleration she traveled. X looked in her left rear view mirror and saw the two men on their Silver Wings slow down, until they came to a steady halt. She grinned and turned her attention away from them. It was at that moment that she realized that the chase was finally at its conclusion. Victory belonged to X. _________________ |

| X slowly headed back towards Couzette, where her empty Mechapart waited for her. She lazily drove towards the empty parking spot, pressed another series of buttons, which regenerated her car of all previous energy it leaked, and headed towards the place she called home. She walked inside the Couzette tower, the tower which was the only one that grazed the sky, and extended upwards, far passing the clouds–it was at that level where X resided. She moved towards the metallic transporter boxes located in each corner of the tower. She lifted her arm towards the scanner, waited, and heard the five monotone beeps signaling the scan was complete. She looked towards the screen inside the transporter box and saw her picture along with information flash upon it; information such as her name, age, height and weight. She pressed her finger against the screen, which then scanned her fingerprint. The authorization process of her information was correct and finally complete. X turned her body around to face the entrance of the Couzette tower, where a flood of people entered. She watched them for only a few moments until, within a blink of an eye, she was a wisp of smoke. Five seconds later, X appeared in front of the sliding doors of her Mechapart, located hundreds of stories in the air. She brought her arm towards the scanner again, and the metal doors slid to the side, allowing her to enter. She briskly walked inside, habitually taking off her shoes while walking towards the rectangular cot that was her bed. She slid inside of the cot and flipped on her back, to face the screen that was only three feet away from her face. She saw her reflection staring at her, and it was at that moment that she began to think. For years now, she’s been dealing with those men. They always had a way of finding her at the most inopportune moments. She couldn’t live a normal life anymore. Everyday, she was on the watch, almost fearing that any second, something would happen, and she would have to run away. That’s all she did. There were minor moments when she would have to defend herself. She still couldn’t forget the first time she saw those men. Those men in those silver coats. After her first encounter with them, she made sure to avoid them at all costs necessary. <> The screen above X’s cot automatically flashed on, and a women appeared. She began to read the daily news of Couzette and her voice was carried throughout X’s whole Mechapart. In fact, her voice was carried across the dozen of corridors, hallways, stairways, and lobbies of Couzette Tower. All screens throughout the building displayed the same women. X lazily rubbed her eyes, yawning and stretching as she walked towards her bathroom facility. The metal door slid open when she scanned her wrist, and as she walked in, tiny machines began to do the work that needed to be done. In a few minutes, she was cleaned, and as she walked towards the door, she scanned her wrist again and pressed a button. A green, magnetic field appeared, covering the door frame. She walked through the translucent field, and she appeared on the other side with a completely different attire. She walked towards the projectile mirror, fixed her hair, and walked out her Mechapart. X walked down the hallway, in the same direction as everyone else. She went inside the transporter box, and appeared on the first floor, main lobby. X walked out the building and headed towards her car, and right before she was a few feet from it, she was stopped. A hand had landed on her right shoulder, and she stopped dead in her tracks; X held her breath She couldn’t believe that she let herself get caught that easily. She wasn’t sure how they got so close to her, and how she did not notice them. She gulped and began to think of tactics to free herself from their hold. She debated on whether to grab his wrist, turn his arm around, flip him in the air, send his body crashing down to the ground, and kick repeatedly at his chest, or to grab the little pocketknife hidden in her hip band with her left hand and slit his throat in one heel-spin. She decided on the heel-spin maneuver and just as she was about to execute her move, a familiar voice rang in her ear. She sighed, inhaled, exhaled, and let the adrenaline release from her body. “Jurgis, what did I tell you?” she spun around, moving her hand away from the pocket that held her knife. “Calm down Seraph, why are...” She gasped, widened her eyes, and smacked her hand over his lips. With her index finger, she placed it towards her own lips, and shook her head at him. She never wanted him to call her that. Jurgis rolled his eyes and removed her hand. “Do I always have to tell you, Jurgis?” She questioned him. “I don’t see what’s wrong with that name? Why can’t I say it?” he asked, following after her as she made her way towards her vehicle. She opened the door and slid into her seat. He held the door open as they continued to talk. “Because,” she started, “I already told you. That isn’t my name anymore. My name is X, and I no longer associate with that...” her sentence was cut short. Her attention was brought towards the city screen, which was enormous enough for people that were miles away to see the news playing on it. The same woman was talking, but this time, there was an outsider sitting next to her. X’s jaw dropped once she realized the outsider. It was one of those men that chased her so many times before. _________________ |

 | Subject: Chapter THREE ; Tue Jan 08, 2008 9:38 pm | |
| X sat in her Night Dragon, with the door opened, watching the news appearing on the huge screen before her. She could hardly believe her eyes or her ears. She watched intently, listening to the man explain to the woman who he was. She absorbed all the information he announced to the public. “I, among with many other of my men, are part of the DDSRC, or, the Dooms Day Search and Relief Corp. Our mission is to find Dr. Tywte’s device and finish what he was unable to. We are experimenting on ways to reverse the effects of this doomsday device. We have with us, gathered a team of Couzette’s highest and best professors–science and mathematical–to help come up with an answer to our lifelong torment. Everyday,” he started, changing the tone of his voice to sound more sympathetic and caring, “we live in fear of the doomsday device, but,” his tone changed again, this time, with more urgency, “with us–the DDSRC–we will lift that fear from your shoulders and allow everyone in Couzette to live again, anew. That, Couzette, is our goal, our mission, and our pledge.” He finished speaking, ending his televised speech, which the people in Couzette all knew would become historic. X sat, continuing to watch and listen intently. When the DDSRC director had left from the screen, X sneered. She didn’t believe anything he just said. She turned her attention back towards Jurgis, who had an awestruck look on his face. She sneered again, and grabbed hold of the Night Dragon’s door handle, but Jurgis stopped her. “Wait! Where are you going?” he questioned her. X rolled her eyes and summed up just enough strength to close the door. She smirked as she watched Jurgis stand in the same spot, as she pulled out and began on her own journey, away from Couzette Tower, and towards where ever her Night Dragon landed her. <> X found herself in front of the Couzette Park sign. Her Night Dragon fell back into a peaceful slumber, and she stepped out and walked on the walkway. Occasionally, she found herself by her lonesome, taking a few walks around the park before returning back towards her Night Dragon. She went to Couzette Park almost every moment after she was caught in the stray of a chase. The park offered her some alone time, and here, she didn’t have to fear those men. The park also offered her time to think. She would think about those men, her first encounter with them, and how drastically it affected her life. She rarely tried to think of Dr. Twyte. Although he took care of her, she knew her life altered because of him. Almost every night, X had short lapses of memory rushing through her, and she could remember brief moments she shared with her parents. Those memory lapses often gave her nightmares. X walked towards the Couzette pond. The water was clear enough that Couzette could watch for a few minutes the lady on the screen. There was a large projectile at the bottom of the pond, and X peered over the edge to watch the woman. Although she was staring at the screen, she wasn’t really listening to the woman. All she could think about was the DDSRC director. All she could think about were those men. She never had a clear idea why they were after her, but she always formed multiple assumptions. The day came to an end, and X still found herself at the park. She walked around it more than three times, but she left the park a few times to find the nearest café where she could catch something to eat. X left the park and returned back towards her Mechapart. She walked inside the Tower, went to the transporter box, and appeared before her Mechapart. Another scan of her wrist landed her inside of her home. She kicked off her shoes, and landed in her cot. This was her schedule. Her life. The life that she lived. She didn’t work in any occupational field. She didn’t have any family to go to. She was alone in the world, and she felt alone. This was X’s life. _________________ |
