Chapter One

**********

"Fuck!" the obscenity escaped his mouth through clenched teeth. He groaned at the intense pain and his right eye twitched as he took a try at his neck again. He never felt anything as terribly painful–well, one thing did come to mind, but he pushed that thought to the furthest realm of his memory banks. Not even the master key could unlock the painful memory, however on lonely days where he sulked around his home with heavy, bloodshot red eyes, ...

Chapter ONE

"Damien," she groaned out his name, sitting Indian-style on the bed they shared together with a pillow in her lap. She tilted her head to the side and continued watching him. His back was facing her and hunched over the mahogany desk in their room. Papers were scattered all over the surface.

"Damien baby..." she spoke again, hoping for an answer. Again, he ignored her–he was too trapped in his work to notice what was happening around ...

Smiling radiantly to all of those that were present at the ceremonious occasion, Faith Tyler walked down the petal-sprinkled aisle, her arm linked with her father. The music that flowed from the organ played the classic wedding march from "Midsummers Night Dream". Looking in front of the chapel, she saw her soon-to-be husband who was smiling also, watching her with his eyes as she walked gracefully. When she approached Richard Thomas, he reached out for her hand, holding ...

Time: 9:00 p.m.

Location: Stunus [a small city on the outskirts of Aqmat]

The signs were obvious, although few.

How could they not see it?

Feel it, hear it, taste it?

The bottle lapped around the baby’s closed lips. The texture of the soft rubber across her smooth, soft skin made her coo. Her wet lips opened, searching for the rubber nipple. When she found it, her breath touched the nipple and the warm milk slowly drained from the bottle. The quiet sucking sounds ...

Zariah jumped out of the black, Victorian carriage, her hair getting wet by the heavy, pouring rain and her combat boots getting dirty by the thick mud surrounding her feet. She shifted her green, cat-like eyes, looking at the filthy place she was in. The carriage she traveled in was long gone; the driver didn’t want to be there, neither did she, but she was there for a reason. The rain fell hard, each drop that fell on her head felt like it was trying to drill a hole into her skull. ...

"Please, wait! Don’t go!" she pleaded with him, tears running down her puffed cheeks. She broke free from the grasp that was keeping her restrained inside the cottage and ran out the door. She ran across the windy meadows, over the stoned bridge connecting the lands that were separated by the thin river, and past the apple tree just to catch up with him. Her peasant clothes dragged at her sides, and she had a difficult ...

Pink roses.

Sweet scented roses and a box of Hershey chocolates.

Can’t forget the white bear tucked underneath his arm, black, button eyes facing the ground.

The wind blew, dancing in between the trees and gliding across his cheeks.

He inhaled, sighed, and relaxed his tense shoulders. His eyes closed slowly and he brought his head back. Another breeze kissed his lips, swept through his clothes, raked the dead leaves by his feet and ...

Little tufts of grass blew in the direction of the wind, and Levon, with his hair lifting gently in the wind, slowly outstretched his arms. He listened intently to the calling of the wind, and threw his head back, with closed eyes, and let a smile slowly creep along his lips. Levon breathed in slowly, savoring each sweet second. The sun shone brightly in his face, and the gentle ...

"Target approaching number three, repeat, target approaching number three," his eyes traced her movements and he brought the newspaper he pretended to read down to his nose so he could just see her over the brim.

A grin graced his lips and he turned his head in the opposite direction towards his comrade who informed him of her arrival.

"Is target locked?" the man asked, folding the newspaper in half and tucking it underneath his arm. He grabbed his black ...

€ 5007

€ As a child, I was always told stories of our banishment. We were all shunned from the surface, and forced to live in a completely different and difficult atmosphere. The air here is thick, almost suffocating, and there is no light. We have all evolved, adapting to these changes, but with many consequences. Many of our kind have died, but we are many generations passed and are used to this separate world of ours.

"Guns loaded......ready....aim......fire!" the officer shouted, then shot his own gun in the air, signaling the start. Our heavy earmuffs that blocked even the loudest of sounds were placed on each person’s ear. We were lined up, the ten of us. We all shot at our targets located approximately fifty feet away from us, shaped in the form of a human body. Circles were drawn on them, with numbers above the rings. The heart, 50, the head, 40, the stomach ...

She wobbled towards the television set, running her smooth, delicate fingers along the rough, wooden surface. Her small digits slid over the dark screen and across the small buttons near the bottom. She closed her eyes and a smile graced her lips. Her body began to rock from side to side, as if she were dancing a slow waltz with the television set, and she unconsciously began to hum a familiar tune. Both hands were on either side of the television and she bit her lip and threw her ...

Trees.

They appeared to flash and flicker right before her very eyes. Her legs were pounding– pulsating–as they carried her weight through the maze of trees, uprooted roots, and moss covering the dead, forest floor. The crescent moon lit her path, allowing a short frame of visibility for her escape.

Wind.

It blew past her ears–a deafening sound. A screeching sound, a bleeding sound. Yet, a reassuring sound. It meant she was moving. ...
